Red Bull Racing and ExxonMobil extend partnership

Red Bull Racing and ExxonMobil have announced a multi-year contract extension that will see the oil company continue as the team’s official fuel, lubricant and technology partner.

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and ExxonMobil have announced a multi-year contract extension that will see the oil company continue as the team’s official fuel, lubricant and technology partner.

Red Bull secured ExxonMobil to their vast sponsor portfolio from long-term partners McLaren in December 2016, replacing French oil company Total, who had joined the team when the team signed with Renault in 2007. Since the partnership began, ExxonMobil worked with the Austrian squad to successfully develop their formulas as the team switched from Renault to Honda power units at the end of 2018.

“We’re very pleased to be continuing our successful partnership with ExxonMobil for the upcoming 2020 Formula One season and beyond. Over the past three seasons the work conducted by ExxonMobil, in close collaboration with our engineers and the Team’s engine suppliers, has produced very positive results. Each new development of fuel and lubricants has added performance that have undoubtedly helped us charge towards our on-track goals and we look forward to seeing further gains through the extension of this partnership.”

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Team Principal

The duration of the contract for the fuel supply to Red Bull hasn’t been specified beyond this being a ‘multi-year’ contract extension and will see Esso Synergy racing fuels and Mobil 1 lubricants supplied to the team, as well as prominent branding on the cars, driver suits and team apparel, garage, hospitality and trucks.

“As one of the biggest and most recognisable names in global motorsport, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing has proven to be the ideal partner for Mobil 1 and Esso Synergy. While on the track we have been able to deliver performance enhancing technology to the Team, we have also worked closely with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing off the track with a focus on digital and social media to connect with our increasingly diverse target audience, providing technology that is also road-relevant to the modern-day consumer. Today’s announcement enables us to continue to partner with a dynamic team and platform to showcase our advanced, high-performance lubricant and fuel technologies. With the season-opener in Melbourne fast approaching, we look forward to continue working with the Team and its exciting drivers Max Verstappen and Alex Albon.”

Nigel Searle, Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Lubricants

The new deal between ExxonMobil and Red Bull Racing partnership further extends Mobil and Esso’s 70-year involvement in Grand Prix racing. In 1981, ExxonMobil’s synthetic lubricant Mobil 1 first appeared in Formula 1 and has since contributed to more than 130 Grand Prix-winning cars, has won six Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championships and five Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championships.
